"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face-for ever." This quote was from the novel/movie "1984" written by George Orwell. It portrays his vision and thoughts of the future and how he predicts it will be at some point in time. There are other ways in which his novels depict on what the future will consist of and what it will look like, such as in Animal Farm. However, there are other authors that can be compared to how Orwell see's the future and how they view it. The greek play writer Sophocles is an example of another author who's views of the future differ from Orwell's.
In Orwell's novel "1984", citizens live in a totalitarian society. He portrays a world where one person (Big Brother) controls everything. From what you eat, to what you wear, and what you do. One would be monitored throughout there whole day. From this novel, Orwell is giving a warning of what is to come in the near future. This is a taken as more of a warning than a prediction because he knew that sometime in the future this would become of our society. And the fact that he had written a novel about it was smart because in a way by reading this us as humans could prevent all that from happening. Orwell views the future as dull and consisting of pain and misery. Although society will be upheld, the people will be put through torture. This ties into his novel Animal Farm. The main theme of this novel was to not let power over rule everything. When Major died the animals were in need of a new leader. At first snowball was the fit leader for all the animals. However, Napoleon ran him out of the farm and there was no choice but to have him be the ruler. From then on the pigs started adapting to the human life and soon enough they become just like them. They had let all the power of taking care of the farm get to there heads. Thus the main theme of the novel being power. Orwell's view of the future from both of these books is that our society will become overpowered by one person and all of our lives will be monitored. Civilians will not have a say in anything they do. We will end up living in a totalitarian/dictatorship. He not so much predicting what will happen but warning us, we can change it so society doesn't end up like this.
While Orwell used his novels to portray what his view of the future was, Sophocles a greek play writer, views were determined by the oracles. In his play Oedipus, Sophocles uses oracles predictions to determine what will happen in the future. These predictions would not always be straight forward. Thats why the main theme for this was to just let it be. Don't try to change fate because it will end up just happening, Sophocles was more of predictions than warnings. Every prediction that was said came true. In the play Oedipus, Oedipus is told by the oracle that he will end up marrying his mother and murdering his father. In order to prevent this from happening he moves away from home and all the people. In the end the prophecy had come true. The Biggest thing that differs from Orwell's view and Sophocles view of the future is one is driven by just their own mind and the other is driven by the Gods and what they predict. However, some similarities between them are that there predictions/warnings had somewhat come true and they both were in there own way tragedies.
The view of the future can be seen in so many ways through many eyes. Whether its an author, artist, or even a religious figure. Orwell suggests that sometime in the near future we will go through what he has portrayed in his novel's "Animal Farm" and "1984", which would be a world where power corrupts everyone and the laws are unfair. He is giving us more of a warning than a prediction. Whereas Sophocles uses the predictions of the oracles in his plays to portray the events that will happen in the future, like in Oedipus.

Summary of New Atlantis
The novel “The New Atlantis” was written by Sir Francis Bacon in about 1623. This was a utopian novel that portrayed a vision of the future of human discovery and knowledge. The book starts out with this European crew that’s sailing from Peru to the south sea. While on their voyage they get lost and come across this island and decide to check it out. In this point of the novel, Bacon introduces a mythical island, Bensalem, which is far advanced in the scientific and technological world. The inhabitants are expressed as generous and delighting, welcoming any to their land. The most important structure on Bensalem is Solomon’s house. This is an institution that undertook all the sciences and technology. Plenty of researches in the applied and pure sciences are done in this institution that would only better humankind like new medicines, ideas for technology, and so on. I think Sir Francis Bacon write this novel because he wanted to express what he might have been thinking at this time about the sciences and technology. He had predicted things that have already happened in today’s world. Sometimes when you have such creative thoughts it’s good to express through writing, maybe he wasn’t even trying to predict anything. So in my opinion, he’s expressing what could be how the future in science and technology will advance, or creatively speaking it could have been just a thought of nonsense. Because at that time nobody thought such things were possible.

Oedipus
Personally
I enjoyed the play more than the reading. When watching the opera,
one could really feel all the emotions come out of each character. I
feel that I had understood the play a lot more from watching it than
from reading it. I especially liked how they portrayed Jocasta’s
character in the opera. She was very dominant and strong which made
me think of her in a different way than how she was portrayed in the
reading. Something else that I thought was interesting was when after
Oedipus had stabbed his eyes out he broke out of his costume and was
became a naked man almost seeming hopeless. This was also after he
had learned the truth of what he had done. I thought this was
interesting because it showed his innocence and who he really was as
appose to Oedipus the King. In comparison to the reading, I did not
feel or imagine this kind of thing going on which made me appreciate
the opera more. Lastly, something strange I noticed was the
characters hands and how they were oversized. Throughout the whole
opera as I was watching it that was one major part that I would get
me distracted. Each character had different hand gestures and how
they were formed which made me think maybe it had to be in relation
to the characters themselves and who they were. I don’t have any
other reason of why they would make them the largest things on them.
Although that would be something I would like to know.

Yellow
Yellow
I think sometimes of your laughter and smile that I miss so much
Your excitement and persona as bright as the sun, shining down from a higher and peaceful place
Your hair long and silky like the glistening oceans in Hawaii, from which you originated
Always having a hoodie, sweats and vans on like you were the toughest one around
The sparkle in your eyes always told of a different story every day
But you hid your emotions like the shadows of night
Your clothes wrapped around your dark Hawaiian skin
Wishing every day that life might get better for you…but I guess it didn’t. Now wishing to you see you just one more time
On the outside you were loud and hysterical, but really you were roaring and crying for help inside
Soccer successfully soothed your soul
Caring always about the wellness of others, and whether they were in trouble, you’d always risk everything
A Hawaiian breeze passes by as you walk, the Puakenikeni flower is a bright yellow with your face all over
It’s as if you were floating on a cloud your whole life with not a care in the world
I want you here
The vibrant shining yellow presence you brought was indescribable

The book of Isaiah
The book of Isaiah was written between 740-668 B.C. The book title translates to “The book of salvation”, Isaiah meaning salvation. The first part of Isaiah was written by Isaiah son of Amoz. However it is believed he did not write the whole book. The second part of the book had differed in style of work from the first part, and was written by an anonymous author. This author is referred to as second Isaiah, to distinguish between the two. The purpose of this book was to get the people to believe in God and to recognize that he is their salvation and only God, in addition to reading the prophecies of Isaiah in which some are coming true to this day.
This was the first book to contain writings of the prophets of the bible. As a prophet of God, Isaiah’s main duty was to urge the people to turn away from their sins and return to God. He had warned the people if they hadn’t repented, God would punish them and so he did. However, Isaiah had also spoken of how God would take care of them, showing his more compassionate side. If they had followed God, he promised never to abandon them and will reward them with crops, land, vineyards, etc. Isaiah’s words were directed to the nation of Judah and the people of Jerusalem. In addition to spreading the word of God, Isaiah had told many prophecies. He had foretold the coming of the Messiah and that he would be born from a virgin. He also predicted things that would happen in the near and distant future. The message of Isaiah is that God is salvation not man. God alone is the only savior.

What I've Learned
“Describe a time when you learned something that has remained significant to you. What you learned could be anything from an idea to a skill, and the learning needn’t have taken place in a traditional school setting, though it may have. Explain the situation, how you learned what you did, and why it remains important to you today.”
Something I have learned that has remained significant to me is the true value of friendship as a whole. From that I have come to learn to always be aware of the things that go on around me and to never take anything for granted, especially when it comes to the people close to me. Unfortunately how I’ve come to learn and understand this was a way I would have never wanted to. On September 7th of last year my best friend had decided to take her life. Writing these words down pains me so much because I never thought in my life I would be saying it, it was like my black swan. This tragic event had immediately opened my eyes. I had never experienced anything like it before. In the couple of months after it happened I was very confused, angry, unsocial, upset, etc. The circumstances were very high because I had to deal with not only the loss of a close friend but all the events that followed it. Such as emotions, how my friends were feeling and having to just go on with life. Having been under these specific circumstances really contributed to what I got out of the situation. It was so intense and fast paced that it forced me to think in ways I’d hadn’t before, therefore realizing things I hadn’t before and from there being educated in what I know now. But with the help of counselors, teachers and friends from school I was able to realize I couldn’t live my life this way. I knew it would take a lot of time to be the same as I used to be but I was willing to work at it. It took this event to take place for me to learn what I did. I went through everyday just thinking in my mind about a lot of things, but mostly about how I could help others. I got myself educated with ways to talk to people if their struggling and how to approach them. In addition, not only did I learn the true value of friendship but I also learned how to cope with my feelings, help others who might be on the edge struggling with their life, and to open my eyes to the life around. This remains so important to me today because it’s a way to keep her memory alive. From what I went through I now have some knowledge to help others that might be going through something similar and to possibly even prevent an event like that from happening. I will never in my lifetime forget this learning experience.

The Scenery
The Scenery
Sparkling and glistening in the light
bouncing off the setting sun
Boats glide across
leaving behind rapid waves
The ripples are soon crushed
by an argosy boat
The outline of the mountains
disappear in the distance
The aroma of fresh grass and nature
surround me
Small talk is heard
throughout the park
Old folks gather around
taking in the Seattle scenery
Appreciating the view more
and more every second
Because they know
it will not last for long
As they walk away
the scenery still remains
The water, mountains, and the boats
